LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In an impressive display of shooting, Dre Davis netted 18 points and Sean Pedulla contributed 16 as the No. 23 Rebel team from Mississippi triumphed over a depleted Louisville squad with a score of 86-63 on Tuesday evening, part of the SEC/ACC Challenge.

Mississippi (7-1) showcased a strong offensive performance, particularly in the second half, where they displayed exceptional accuracy by shooting 63%. This was highlighted by a remarkable run during which they converted seven consecutive shots within just under three minutes, extending their lead to 58-41, which later ballooned to as much as 27 points. This win comes as a rebound for the Rebels following a defeat to No. 12 Purdue last week.

Davis, a former player for Louisville during his initial two collegiate seasons, excelled by going 8 for 11 from the field and contributing 13 points during the first half. Meanwhile, Pedulla made 6 of his 11 attempts from the field, which included the Rebels’ opening basket of the game, a three-pointer.

For the Cardinals (5-3), Chucky Hepburn was the leading scorer, racking up 19 points. However, Louisville had to contend with significant injuries, losing forward Kasean Pryor to a torn ACL and guard Koren Johnson with a shoulder injury, both of which ended their seasons. Louisville’s shooting woes were evident as they started the game by missing their first twelve attempts from beyond the arc and ultimately managed only a 33% shooting percentage for the game.

In terms of performance highlights, the Rebels capitalized on their shooting prowess, finishing the game with a shooting percentage of 57%, including making 40% of their three-point attempts, while dominating the paint with a 48-26 scoring advantage over the Cardinals. Despite Louisville’s efforts to close the gap by frequently reaching the free-throw line and managing to reduce the deficit to single digits before halftime, they struggled to keep pace with the Rebels’ speed, size, and shooting accuracy afterwards.

A pivotal moment occurred just before halftime when Louisville appeared ready to head into the break trailing 38-31. A foul was called on Terrance Edwards Jr. against Pedulla as time expired, allowing Pedulla to sink both free throws and extend the lead to nine points.

Key statistics from the matchup showed Mississippi starting with an impressive 8 of 11 at the beginning of the game and maintaining momentum with another strong 8 of 10 performance in the early going of the second half.

Looking ahead, Ole Miss will host Lindenwood this coming Saturday evening. Conversely, Louisville will prepare to face No. 9 Duke on Sunday night as they kick off their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule.
