The Spanish Vuelta’s 90th edition will commence in the picturesque Italian region of Piedmont, as announced by the race organizers on Monday.
The event is set to launch on August 23, 2025, with the first three stages taking place in Italy before the route transitions into Spain.
This will mark the inaugural instance of the Vuelta commencing in Italy, while also being the sixth time the race begins outside of Spain.
Previous editions of the Vuelta have started in locations such as Portugal, the Netherlands, and Belgium, and for the 2026 race, Monaco is slated to be the starting point.
The first stage will kick off in Turin and traverse 183 kilometers to Novara, which includes an ascent over the Bienca-Tomalino Pass.
The second stage will cover 157 kilometers, starting from Alba and concluding in Limone Piemonte, notable for being the first stage to include a summit finish.
The final Italian stage will span 139 kilometers, moving from San Maurizio Canavese to Ceres, and will incorporate a climb over the Issiglio Pass.
In a related note, Turin has previously hosted the finish of the third stage during the 2024 Tour de France.
Italian cyclists have accumulated 187 stage victories in the Vuelta, ranking third behind their Spanish and Belgian counterparts.
Six Italian riders have claimed the overall victory in the Vuelta, with notable winners including Fabio Aru in 2015 and Vincenzo Nibali in 2010, among others.
The 2025 edition of the Vuelta is anticipated to be an exciting event, kicking off on August 23.
