BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Novak Djokovic participated in a ceremony prior to the Copa Libertadores final at the Monumental de Nunes Stadium on Saturday.
The celebrated tennis player is currently in Argentina, where he is scheduled to play an exhibition match on Sunday alongside Juan Martín del Potro, the former U.S. Open champion who is nearing the end of his professional tennis career.
Djokovic, who holds an impressive record of 24 Grand Slam titles, assisted in bringing the Copa trophy onto the field during the pre-match festivities.
However, he did not disclose a preference between the Brazilian teams contending in the final: Botafogo and Atletico Mineiro.
The Serbian star is an avid supporter of Red Star Belgrade, his homeland’s football club. Additionally, he has shown admiration for two international teams — Manchester United and AC Milan.
As for the teams competing, Botafogo is aiming to secure its inaugural Copa Libertadores title, while Atletico Mineiro previously claimed the trophy in 2013, an achievement marked by the participation of legendary player Ronaldinho.
