WILMINGTON, N.C. — In a dominating performance, Appalachian State triumphed over Colgate with a score of 72-50 on Friday, boosted by the impressive play of CJ Huntley, who recorded 17 points.
Huntley also added seven rebounds, further solidifying his impact on the game for the Mountaineers, who now hold a record of 5-2. Myles Tate played a significant role as well, contributing 15 points, including four successful 3-pointers from eight attempts. In addition to his scoring, Tate showcased his versatility with seven rebounds and nine assists. Jalil Beaubrun also had a solid outing, finishing with 11 points while shooting 5-for-8 from the field, including one 3-pointer.
For Colgate, who now stands at 2-5, four players each managed to score nine points: Sam Wright, Brady Cummins, Nicolas Louis-Jacques, and Parker Jones.
Appalachian State seized control of the game with 14:36 left in the first half and maintained their advantage throughout. By halftime, the score reflected a strong 40-25 lead, with Tate leading the charge with 14 points. In the second half, the Mountaineers further expanded their lead to 54-37, spurred by an impressive 7-0 scoring run. Huntley led the team in scoring for the second half, adding another 11 points to his total.
