Boulder, Colorado – On Friday, Shedeur Sanders made history by breaking Colorado’s longstanding single-season passing record, previously held by Koy Detmer for 28 years.
The senior quarterback entered the game against Oklahoma State needing just 40 yards to eclipse Detmer’s record of 3,527 passing yards. He accomplished this feat by completing a 10-yard touchdown pass to LaJohntay Wester during the first quarter of the regular-season finale.
This touchdown marked the 31st of the season for Sanders, setting a new school record that he previously established just a week earlier in a game against Kansas.
Detmer set his record back in 1996 when Rick Neuheisel was the head coach for the Buffaloes. That season, the team finished with a strong 10-2 record and earned a No. 8 ranking in the AP Top 25.
Prior to the kickoff, Sanders was also honored as the recipient of the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which recognizes the quarterback who exemplifies exceptional character, as well as academic and athletic achievements.
