Liverpool, England — Defender Ibrahima Konate is likely to be sidelined for the upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City due to an injury sustained during a recent match.
The French center-back suffered a leg injury in the closing moments of Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Although Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, did not completely rule out Konate for the City clash in his press conference on Friday, a post shared by Konate on Instagram later indicated that he may not participate.
In his post, Konate expressed his frustration over the timing of the injury, stating, “So frustrating to pick up this injury right at the end of a great game on Wednesday night. Now we start the recovery process but one thing I promise is I will come back and be the best I can be once again.”
He further thanked the fans for their support, saying, “Thank you for the amazing support at Anfield. Inshallah we will keep going and I will support the team every step of the way.”
In his potential absence, Liverpool could turn to Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah as alternatives to pair with Virgil van Dijk in defense.
Currently, Liverpool holds an eight-point lead over second-placed Manchester City in the league standings.
