Former All-Star closer Fernando Rodney has officially signed with the Hamilton Cardinals for the upcoming 2025 season in Ontario’s Intercounty Baseball League.
The announcement was made by the team through an online release on Thursday, generating excitement among fans and players alike.
Rodney has had an impressive professional career, amassing a total of 327 saves during his 17 seasons in Major League Baseball, representing 11 different teams.
He had a standout year in 2014 when he led the American League with 48 saves while playing for the Seattle Mariners.
Known for his unique bow and arrow celebration following successful saves, Rodney last took to the mound in the major leagues in 2019.
During that season, he made three appearances in the World Series for the Washington Nationals, contributing to their remarkable victory over the Houston Astros in a thrilling seven-game series.
Since his time in the big leagues, Rodney has continued to play baseball, competing in various leagues across Mexico, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic.
As he approaches his 48th birthday in March 2025, Rodney finds himself as one of the new candidates nominated for this year’s National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.

The Intercounty Baseball League, which emphasizes itself as the premier baseball league in Canada, is set to commence its 106th season in 2025.
The league features a nine-team format, with teams composed of former MLB players, Minor League Baseball (MiLB) participants, and top NCAA collegiate athletes.
Players will participate in a packed 42-game schedule that stretches from May through September, providing ample opportunities for both competition and entertainment for baseball enthusiasts.
