A young individual, suspected of intending to construct pipe bombs for an Islamic extremist attack, was apprehended in western Germany, authorities revealed on Thursday.
Details regarding the suspect’s identity and precise age have not been disclosed. Law enforcement officials in Koblenz indicated that the arrest occurred on Tuesday evening, where the individual faces accusations of preparing for a significant act of violence.
Investigators believe that this individual became radicalized through online channels, sharing propaganda that praises the actions of the Islamic State group. A previous search of his residence in October uncovered two bayonets and four sections of pipe.
Reports from the prosecution suggest that the suspect had intentions to fabricate pipe bombs for use in an attack, utilizing instructions obtained from the internet.
A more recent search of his home revealed additional items that could have been utilized for creating an ignition mechanism.
Despite these findings, there is no evidence suggesting that the suspect was on the verge of executing an attack. Investigators found no explosives or materials that could be employed in their production.
On Wednesday, a judge authorized the continued detention of the suspect as authorities consider potential charges.
