EVANSVILLE, Ind. — In a thrilling contest on Monday evening, Southern Indiana secured an 87-77 victory over Indiana State, with Stephen Olowoniyi leading the charge with 16 points.
Olowoniyi also played a significant role on the boards, grabbing eight rebounds for the Screaming Eagles, who now hold a record of 3-4. Jayland Randall contributed 15 points, showcasing his shooting prowess by hitting 4 of 11 shots, including 2 of 3 from three-point territory, and going 5 for 6 from the free-throw line, along with recording three steals. Additionally, Jack Mielke was an asset, scoring 14 points on 4 for 7 shooting from beyond the arc and grabbing eight rebounds.
For the Sycamores, who are now 3-3, the standout performance came from Samage Teel, who scored 20 points while also adding six rebounds, four assists, and five steals to his tally. Jahni Summers chipped in with 15 points and three steals, while Markus Harding contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
The game saw Southern Indiana take the lead early, establishing a 19:16 advantage in the first half, which they maintained throughout. At halftime, the score stood at 40-29, with Randall leading the team in scoring with 13 points at that juncture. While Indiana State outperformed Southern Indiana by one point in the second half, Mielke’s impressive 14-point effort in the final period was crucial in securing the win for Southern Indiana.
