GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Elon Phoenix wrapped up their season with a 31-21 victory against North Carolina A&T on Saturday, thanks to an impressive performance from quarterback Matthew Downing.

Downing not only threw for two touchdowns but also added a rushing touchdown, demonstrating his dual-threat capabilities. The match began with a deadlock at 7 in the second quarter until the Phoenix capitalized on a fumble recovery, converting it into a field goal. This moment marked the start of an impressive streak with four consecutive scoring drives.

Throughout the game, Downing showcased his accuracy by completing 16 of 21 passes for 203 yards. His performance was complemented by Chandler Brayboy, who caught 12 passes for 118 yards and scored one touchdown. Additionally, Rushawn Baker had an excellent outing on the ground, rushing for 106 yards. Julian Bumper also made a notable contribution with a 10-yard rushing touchdown on his single carry, while Jamarien Dalton scored a 30-yard touchdown on his only reception.

On the opposing side, the Aggies, unfortunately, concluded their season on a low note, suffering their 11th consecutive defeat. Freshman Cortez Lane provided a bright spot for North Carolina A&T, returning a kickoff for an impressive 97-yard touchdown. Justin Fomby played well under center, throwing for 190 yards and connecting with Daniel Cole for a touchdown pass. Shimique Blizzard was another key player for the Aggies, rushing for 87 yards and scoring a touchdown.

This victory allows Elon to finish their season with a record of 6-6, while North Carolina A&T remains at a disappointing 1-11.
