Racing of Argentina claims first Copa Sudamericana title with a 3-1 victory over Brazil’s Cruzeiro

ASUNCION, Paraguay — In an exhilarating match, Argentina’s Racing Club secured its first-ever Copa Sudamericana title with a 3-1 victory over Brazil’s Cruzeiro during the final on Saturday.

The triumph marked a significant achievement for Racing, who had not tasted international glory since 1988 when they won the Supercopa Sudamericana.

Gaston Martirena ignited the scoring early, netting a goal in the 15th minute, which was soon followed by Adrian Martinez’s contribution just five minutes later.

Martinez, fondly referred to as “Maravilla,” impressed throughout the tournament, finishing as the leading scorer with an impressive tally of 10 goals from 13 matches.

The match was rounded off with a late goal from Roger Martinez in the 90th minute, securing a comfortable victory for Racing.

Cruzeiro managed to find the net a bit later, with Kaio Jorge scoring in the 52nd minute, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome of the game.

This victory not only celebrates a historic achievement for the team but also rejuvenates the spirit and legacy of Racing Club in international football.
