CARBONDALE, Ill. — In an impressive display of strength, Michael Lindauer set a new school record by throwing seven touchdowns as Southern Illinois dominated Murray State with a 62-0 score on Saturday.
Lindauer’s performance was remarkable, completing 20 of 33 passes for a total of 283 yards. Wide receiver Keontez Lewis was a standout target, securing five passes for 104 yards, which included touchdown receptions of 4 and 65 yards. Another key player, Bradley Clark, also made significant contributions by catching five passes for 84 yards, with touchdowns from 35 and 23 yards. Nah’shawn Hezekiah added to the scoring with two receptions for touchdowns measuring 19 and 35 yards, respectively.
On the ground, Allen Middleton excelled, rushing for 124 yards on 15 attempts, while backup quarterback Jeremiah Baxter capped off the scoring in the fourth quarter with a rushing touchdown of his own. Jay Jones also added a touchdown to the mix, catching one pass for a single yard that resulted in a score for Southern Illinois.
The Salukis ended the regular season with a record of 4-8 overall and 2-6 within the Missouri Valley Football Conference. They outperformed the Racers significantly, amassing a total of 529 yards while limiting Murray State to merely 185 yards. The Racers struggled offensively as three quarterbacks combined to throw five interceptions throughout the game, further hampering their efforts.
This game marked a strong finish to the season for Southern Illinois, leaving the team and fans optimistic about future efforts.
