76ers’ Paul George to miss next two games due to knee bone bruise

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers announced on Thursday that forward Paul George is dealing with a bone bruise in his left knee and will be sidelined for two upcoming games.

According to the team’s statement, George has not sustained any structural damage to his knee, which he had previously hyperextended during the preseason. His injury occurred during Wednesday night’s game against Memphis, which ended in a 117-111 defeat for the 76ers. This match was significant as it was the first time this season that George, along with fellow All-Stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, took the court together as starters.

As a result of the injury, George will miss home games scheduled for Friday against the Brooklyn Nets and Sunday against the Los Angeles Clippers, his former team. The 34-year-old, a nine-time All-Star, is expected to be reevaluated on Monday.

The loss to Memphis pushed the 76ers’ record to a disappointing 2-12, marking the lowest in the league as of Thursday’s matchups. George joined Philadelphia earlier this season on a lucrative four-year deal worth $212 million, transferring after spending five seasons with the Clippers. This season, he has averaged 14.9 points across eight games.

Throughout the season, Embiid has faced various injuries, load management, and a suspension, while Maxey was affected by a hamstring injury. Despite being viewed as a strong contender in the Eastern Conference, the 76ers have not secured a victory since their overtime win against the Charlotte Hornets on November 10.
