RALEIGH, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that goaltender Frederik Andersen is set to undergo knee surgery and will likely be sidelined for a duration of at least two months.
The 35-year-old goalie is scheduled for surgery on Friday, with a recovery forecast of around 8 to 12 weeks. This news follows an earlier update from coach Rod Brind’Amour, who had initially expressed optimism about Andersen’s return being only a week away. However, he later acknowledged that the expected timeline for recovery had extended significantly due to an undisclosed injury.
Andersen has not taken to the ice since October 26, and Brind’Amour clarified that his current condition is unrelated to the blood-clotting issue that kept him out for a considerable part of the previous season.
In the current season, Andersen has recorded a 3-1-0 record, boasting an impressive goals-against average of 1.48 and a save percentage of .941.
On a positive note, the Hurricanes secured a victory against Philadelphia on Wednesday night and are set to face New Jersey on Thursday, as they continue their three-game road trip.
