Taylor Jenkins achieves milestone as Grizzlies’ all-time winningest coach with win against Philadelphia

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Taylor Jenkins has ascended to the pinnacle of the Memphis Grizzlies coaching hierarchy.
In a thrilling game on Wednesday night, the Grizzlies triumphed over the Philadelphia 76ers with a score of 117-111. This victory marked Jenkins’ 215th win during his six seasons with the Grizzlies, surpassing Lionel Hollins to become the all-time winningest coach in the history of the franchise.

Jenkins expressed his gratitude and humility after the game while celebrating with his team in the locker room. “It’s an unbelievable honor to be among the company of so many great coaches that have come before me,” he stated. He emphasized the significant responsibility it entails to lead this franchise, adding, “It’s a privilege and an honor.”

The coaching legacy of the Memphis Grizzlies includes notable figures such as Hubie Brown, Mike Fratello, Hollins, and current Detroit Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff. Jenkins, before becoming the head coach of the Grizzlies in June 2019, held various positions with several teams including the San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks, and Milwaukee Bucks. During his tenure, he guided the team to three consecutive trips to the Western Conference playoffs until an injury setback affected their chances last season.

Following the victory, Desmond Bane, who contributed 21 points to the game, described the celebration as “special” for Jenkins, whom he regards as the best coach he has ever played under. “Coach Jenkins is the best coach in Memphis Grizzlies history,” Bane remarked, highlighting Jenkins’ humility and dedication. “He deserves it. […] It was good for him to actually embrace it just because he’s such a humble guy.”

Although Jenkins appreciated the moment and was grateful for the recognition, he quickly pivoted his focus towards the upcoming road game against Chicago scheduled for Saturday. “It’s not about me at the end of the day,” Jenkins acknowledged. “We’ve got a lot more work to do. But I wake up every day being happy. It’s an absolute blessing to be in this position.”
