Pamela Hayden, veteran voice actor from ‘The Simpsons,’ known for voicing Milhouse, retires from her role

Pamela Hayden, the voice behind Milhouse Van Houten on “The Simpsons,” has announced her departure from the show after an impressive 35-year run. Known for portraying Bart Simpson’s awkward friend, Hayden, now 70, will officially conclude her role in the upcoming “Treehouse of Horror” episode set to air on November 24.

In a heartfelt statement, Hayden expressed her gratitude, stating, “It’s been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a funny, witty, and groundbreaking show.” Her contributions to the series extended beyond Milhouse; she also brought to life characters like Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, Janey, and Malibu Stacy.

“The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening paid tribute to Hayden’s influence, saying, “Pamela gave us tons of laughs with Milhouse, the hapless kid with the biggest nose in Springfield. She made Milhouse hilarious and real, and we will miss her.” Plans are already in motion to find new actors to voice her beloved characters moving forward.

Milhouse made his debut in a Butterfinger commercial back in 1989 and was named after former U.S. President Richard Milhous Nixon. Groening has mentioned that he felt it was fitting to use that name, stating, “because that was the most unfortunate name a kid could have.” As a character, Milhouse has been known for his nearsightedness and often serves as the target of jokes, experiencing relentless teasing from the character Nelson. In memorable storylines, Milhouse has found himself cheekily placed on America’s Most Wanted list by Bart, and at times, he has also made amusingly questionable choices, such as trading Bart’s soul to the local comic book store owner.
