DALLAS – In an impressive showcase, Brett Leason recorded a goal and two assists, achieving a personal best with three points, as the Anaheim Ducks secured a 4-2 victory against the Dallas Stars on Monday evening.
Lukas Dostal was pivotal in goal, making 34 saves, and managed to secure his first win since October 29, breaking a discouraging personal streak of 0-4-1.
The Ducks, who are starting to find their rhythm, jumped to an early 3-0 lead before the Stars mounted a comeback attempt, narrowing the gap to just one goal in the third period. However, Jackson LaCombe’s backhand shot with just over five minutes remaining restored Anaheim’s two-goal advantage, allowing them to clinch consecutive victories for the first time this season.
For the home team, Esa Lindell and Matt Duchene managed to find the back of the net, but their efforts were not enough to overcome the Ducks’ lead. This loss marked the end of a three-game winning streak for the Stars, as they experienced their first home loss of the season after winning the previous seven at home. Casey DeSmith recorded 24 saves in goal but couldn’t halt the Ducks’ offense.
Leason opened the scoring at 5:44 in the first period, driving down the right flank to beat DeSmith with a shot to the far post, marking his second goal of the season. He earned both of these in the last four games. Meanwhile, the Ducks also saw Brock McGinn exit the game early due to a lower body injury.
Notable points from the game included Zellweger scoring just 56 seconds into the match, continuing a trend as he had netted a goal only a minute and twelve seconds into their previous game against Detroit. For the Stars, Mason Marchment provided an assist, tallying up to his 10th point across four games played.
A crucial moment occurred early in the second period when Dostal denied Roope Hintz on a breakaway during a 4-on-4 situation, maintaining the Ducks’ 2-0 lead. In total, the Stars faced three breakaway attempts in that period, all of which were thwarted.
Dostal’s performance stood out as he leads the NHL with nine games where he recorded 30 or more saves, demonstrating his significant contribution to the Ducks’ defensive efforts.
Next on the schedule, the Ducks will be heading to Chicago for a matchup on Tuesday, while the Stars are set to host the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday.
