CEDAR CITY, Utah — In a thrilling match on Saturday, Southern Utah emerged victorious against Omaha, clinching a 79-73 win with a standout performance from Jamir Simpson, who contributed 25 points to the scoreboard.
Simpson’s impressive game also included five rebounds, further solidifying his essential role for the Thunderbirds, who improved their record to 4-0 this season. Teammate Dominique Ford had an excellent outing as well, netting 22 points while shooting 53.3% from the field (8 of 15) and demonstrating skill from beyond the arc with four 3-pointers out of ten attempts. Ford also converted two out of three free-throw attempts, showcasing his offensive versatility. Meanwhile, Jamari Sibley added to the tally with 10 points, although his shooting was less efficient, hitting 3 of 11 shots, including 2 for 5 from deep and making 2 of 4 at the charity stripe.
On the other side, Lance Waddles led the scoring for the Mavericks with a solid 20 points. Marquel Sutton played a crucial role as well, finishing with 12 points, alongside six rebounds and two crucial blocks. Additionally, Ja’Sean Glover also pitched in with 12 points, rounding out a commendable effort from the Omaha team, although it fell short in the contest.
