MANHATTAN, Kan. — In an exciting matchup, LSU emerged victorious over Kansas State with a score of 76-65 on Thursday night, highlighted by Cam Carter’s impressive performance against his former team. Carter netted 20 points, showcasing his talent by shooting 6 for 11 from the field, including three successful 3-pointers. This marks an excellent start for him at LSU, as he has accumulated 62 points across the first three games, converting 11 of 19 attempts from beyond the arc after averaging 14.6 points the previous season with the Wildcats.
Dug McDaniel made a notable impact for Kansas State, driving to the basket for an easy layup and following it up with a steal that led to another fast-break layup, narrowing the deficit to 56-46 with just over nine minutes on the clock. After a brief timeout, Carter quickly responded by draining a crucial 3-pointer from the top of the key.
Freshman Vyctorius Miller also played a pivotal role in the game, despite initially missing an open 3-pointer toward the end. He recovered the rebound and then nailed a corner 3 to push LSU’s lead to 72-57 with 2:33 remaining, sealing the victory for the Tigers. This marks only the fifth loss on home turf for Kansas State in their last 36 games under the guidance of coach Jerome Tang.
In addition to Carter’s performance, LSU saw contributions from Jordan Sears, who had 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Daimion Collins added 12 points. Remarkably, Corey Chest, who has had limited playtime this season, stepped up to grab 13 rebounds in just 21 minutes on the court.
For Kansas State, David N’Guessan and McDaniel each scored 16 points in the contest. This matchup continues the annual rivalry between the teams; they previously faced off in the Cayman Islands Classic, where Kansas State clinched a narrow 61-59 victory, followed by a 75-60 win last year in the Maravich Center.
LSU will head back to their home court to battle Charleston Southern on Tuesday, while Kansas State prepares for their next game against Mississippi Valley State, who suffered a heavy defeat to Missouri earlier in the day with a staggering score of 111-39.
