ROME — In an exciting Women’s Champions League encounter at Roma on Wednesday, Lyon’s Melchie Dumornay delivered a remarkable goal from the center circle.
The Haitian forward, just 21 years old, took full advantage of a moment when Roma goalkeeper Camelia Ceasar was positioned far from her goal. The opportunity arose when teammate Lindsey Horan, an American midfielder, intercepted a pass near the halfway line and redirected the ball towards Dumornay.
Demonstrating her impressive skill, Dumornay controlled the ball with one touch before lofting it high towards the goal. The ball sailed over the line and bounced into the net, securing a 2-0 advantage for Lyon in the 42nd minute.
This goal came shortly after Dumornay had already put her team in the lead with a close-range effort following a corner that Roma failed to clear, marking her second goal in quick succession.
Lyon holds the record as an eight-time champion in women’s European soccer and last lifted the trophy in 2022, showcasing their continued dominance in the tournament.
As both teams remained unbeaten in Group A, the intensity of the match underscored the competitive spirit and skill level present in this prestigious league.
