SAN DIEGO – Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones delivered an impressive performance with 21 points, leading UC San Diego to a 64-54 victory over Sacramento State on Tuesday.
Tait-Jones also contributed significantly on the boards, grabbing eight rebounds for the Tritons, who improved their record to 2-1. Tyler McGhie supported the team’s offense by scoring 17 points, though he struggled with his shooting, going 5 of 15 overall and making just 3 of 12 attempts from the three-point line. He did show proficiency at the free-throw line, converting 4 of 5 attempts. Additionally, Justin Rochelin chipped in with eight points, shooting an efficient 3 for 5 from the field, including 2 for 4 from long range.
On the other side, Alex Kovatchev was the standout for Sacramento State, leading the team with 14 points. Jacob Holt provided a solid effort as well for the Hornets (1-2), contributing 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Emil Skytta added eight points to the team’s totals.
The match showcased a strong defensive effort from both teams, but it was UC San Diego who came out on top, securing an important win as they look to build momentum in their early season.
