Rider triumphs 90-79 against Navy

Annapolis, Md. — In an exciting matchup on Tuesday night, Jay Alvarez’s impressive 19-point performance paved the way for Rider University as they overcame Navy with a score of 90-79.

Alvarez contributed significantly to the Broncs’ victory by also securing six rebounds. His teammates made notable contributions as well, with TJ Weeks Jr. adding 18 points, shooting an efficient 6 for 11 from the field. Weeks’ performance included making 2 of 5 attempts from beyond the arc, and he was perfect at the free-throw line, hitting 4 for 4, along with seven rebounds. Aasim Burton was another key player, finishing the night with 16 points, shooting 3 of 5 from the field, and remarkably going 9 for 10 from the free-throw line.

The Navy Midshipmen, now sitting at 1-2, saw Austin Benigni as their top scorer, who recorded 23 points, along with four assists and three steals. Aidan Kehoe made a solid impact as well, contributing 17 points and seven rebounds, while Jinwoo Kim added a total of 10 points.

Rider gained the upper hand early in the game, taking the lead with 13:58 remaining in the first half and never looking back. Alvarez played a pivotal role during the first half, netting 12 points, helping his team establish a 47-35 advantage by halftime. Burton shone in the second half, leading the Broncs with 14 points as they continued to build on their lead.
