Florida Basketball Coach’s Return

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators basketball coach Todd Golden made a noteworthy return to the court after facing a tumultuous few days. During the pregame introductions on Monday evening, he was met with an enthusiastic ovation, one of the loudest of the night, as the Gators triumphed over Grambling State 86-62.

“I thought that was fantastic,” Golden remarked, acknowledging the crowd’s support. “The fans were as supportive as ever, especially considering the circumstances—I’m thankful for that.”

This marked Golden’s first public appearance since a formal inquiry was launched by the university regarding serious allegations of sexual harassment and stalking. He has previously indicated that he is considering filing “defamation claims,” likely against those accusing him.

The 39-year-old coach received warm greetings from his coaching staff and players alike, and he shared moments of warmth with Grambling State’s coach, Donte’ Jackson. Golden’s family, including his wife Megan and their two children, were also present close to the bench during the game.

One subtle change that went largely unnoticed was the removal of advertisements and public service announcements related to Golden from the video boards within O’Connell Center. This action followed reports from a local student newspaper, which revealed that allegations against him include inappropriate behavior towards several women, including students, through social media interactions.

The Independent Florida Alligator detailed claims that involved unwanted sexual advances via Instagram, requests for sexual favors, and the unsolicited sharing of explicit photos and videos. This was based on a Title IX complaint submitted on September 27.

Addressing female fans, he requested their patience during this challenging time. “It’s vital that we respect the due process and I hope they can allow for this process to unfold,” he added, urging for continued support.

The allegations include multiple instances where Golden purportedly photographed women without their consent and shared these images. Other incidents involved him appearing at locations where he was aware the women would be, raising concerns about alleged stalking behaviors.

The Gators (3-0) showcased their best first-half performance of the season against Grambling State (1-2), with five players achieving double-digit scores, led by Rueben Chinyelu, who tied his career high with 14 points. Golden expressed that such a performance was anticipated.
