Alabama’s football team faces a significant setback as edge rusher Que Robinson is set to miss the remainder of the season due to an injury to his left arm. The injury was sustained during the second half of Alabama’s 42-13 victory over then-No. 14 LSU. Head coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed on Monday that the injury would sideline the fifth-year senior for the rest of the year, although he did not provide specifics regarding the injury itself.
Describing Robinson as a “special, special person,” DeBoer expressed empathy for his player, stating, “You hate to see a guy that pours so much into it go through what he’s going through.” He emphasized Robinson’s contributions to the team outside of game days, mentioning how the player takes time before practices to mentor and assist his teammates, reflecting Robinson’s deep care for the team and the program.
The victory against LSU has strengthened Alabama’s position in both the playoff and Southeastern Conference race. The team will finish the regular season with upcoming matches against Mercer, Oklahoma, and Auburn.
This season, Robinson recorded 23 tackles and is tied for the team lead with four sacks. His performance also includes five quarterback hurries and a forced and recovered fumble. Over his career, Robinson, who has been a vital contributor on special teams, has progressively taken on a more significant role in defense each year. He is among the four current players on the roster who were part of the 2020 national championship team, despite not having played in that game.
In the wake of Robinson’s departure, teammates Qua Russaw and Yhonzae Pierre are expected to take on greater responsibilities. Linebacker Jihaad Campbell has also seen some time at the edge rusher position, adding depth to the squad. “Those guys are excited for the challenge, next man up mentality,” stated Alabama’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. He noted that such moments are crucial as the season progresses and that finding players who can rise to the occasion will be key to the team’s success in the later stages of the season.
