BOZEMAN, Mont. — In a dominant display, the Montana State Bobcats overwhelmed Sacramento State with a 49-7 victory, featuring a strong rushing attack that included two touchdowns each from Tommy Mellott and Julius Davis.
The game kicked off explosively for the Bobcats, as Ty McCullouch sprinted 64 yards for a touchdown just three plays into the contest, setting the tone early for the match. Montana State (10-0, 6-0 Big Sky Conference), which holds the No. 2 spot in the FCS coaches poll, established a commanding lead that they would maintain throughout the game.
Mellott followed up with a 14-yard touchdown run, pushing the score to 14-0 by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Davis contributed a 5-yard touchdown run, and Mellott capped off a successful first half with another scoring run from 13 yards out, giving the Bobcats a 28-0 lead at halftime.
The third quarter saw Scottre Humphrey add a short touchdown run before Adam Jones electrified the crowd with a 57-yard touchdown run, expanding the lead to an impressive 42-0 with just under ten minutes remaining in the quarter.
In the final period, Davis finished off a lengthy 14-play drive with a 1-yard touchdown run, solidifying the team’s victory. Montana State’s ground game was formidable, accumulating 508 total rushing yards. Jones led the charge with a remarkable 159 yards on just five carries, including a standout 78-yard run. Humphrey and Davis added 129 yards on 12 carries and 76 yards on 15 carries, respectively.
On the other side, Carson Conklin from Sacramento State (3-7, 1-5) completed 12 of 27 passes for 138 yards but was intercepted once. The Hornets managed to avoid the shutout with a 43-yard touchdown run from Curron Borders during the third quarter.
This performance showcased Montana State’s dominance in the Big Sky Conference, as they continue their undefeated season in pursuit of a shot at the championship.
