CHICAGO — On Thursday night, Loyola Chicago triumphed over Detroit Mercy with a commanding 87-65 score, propelled by the combined efforts of Sheldon Edwards, Jalen DeLoach, and Jayden Dawson, who each netted 13 points.
Edwards displayed impressive shooting, hitting 5 of 8 attempts from the field, including a solid 3 of 6 from beyond the arc, helping his team to a strong performance with a 2-0 record.
DeLoach contributed as well, connecting on 5 of 7 shots, while Dawson also had his moments despite shooting 3 for 12 overall, with a notable 3 for 11 record from three-point range and adding four steals to his tally.
On the opposing side, Mak Manciel topped the scoring charts for the Titans (1-1) with 16 points, closely followed by Nate Johnson, who accrued 13 points. Orlando Lovejoy added nine points and made five steals in a determined effort.
Loyola Chicago seized control of the game with 13:39 left in the first half and maintained that advantage throughout. By halftime, the Ramblers had established a 50-33 lead, bolstered by Dawson’s initial 13-point contribution.
In the second half, Loyola Chicago increased their dominance with an 8-0 scoring surge, escalating their lead from 15 to a decisive 23 points. DeLoach led the team in scoring during that period, contributing 11 points to ensure the victory.
