Republican Representative Russ Fulcher successfully secured his position in the U.S. House by winning reelection on Wednesday, outpacing his Democratic opponent, Kaylee Peterson. Fulcher has held the congressional seat for Idaho’s 1st District since he was first elected in 2018, taking over from former Republican congressman Raul Labrador.
Prior to his congressional career, Fulcher dedicated nine years to the Idaho state Legislature, having begun his public service in 2005 when he was appointed to the state Senate. The 1st Congressional District he represents encompasses the northern region of Idaho as well as the western areas, which notably include the city of Coeur d’Alene and suburbs surrounding Boise.
The announcement of Fulcher’s victory was made at 12:42 a.m. EST, confirming his continued representation of the district amidst a competitive election landscape.
