Blues secure 3-2 victory over Lightning despite Dylan Holloway’s injury setback

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Blues secured a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night, thanks to goals from Jordan Kyrou, Alexey Toropchenko, and Oskar Sundqvist.
Goaltender Jordan Binnington achieved his 149th career win, making 21 saves in the process, which allows him to surpass Jake Allen for second place in franchise history, now trailing Mike Liut, who holds 151 wins.

For Tampa Bay, Nick Perbix and Victor Hedman both found the net, while Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 20 shots. The Lightning have faced significant challenges, now enduring a three-game losing streak.

Kyrou provided a crucial score in the third period, netting his fourth goal of the season at 8:51, which solidified a 3-1 lead for the Blues. Prior to that, Toropchenko broke the ice with his first goal of the season at 1:35 in the second period, taking St. Louis ahead 2-1 after Sundqvist scored his first goal of the season 7:47 into that same period.

In the wake of the game, the Lightning felt the impact of missing star forward Brayden Point, who sat out due to an undisclosed injury. Point, who had recorded three goals and four assists while maintaining a point streak over his last five games, was notably missed.

The Blues faced adversity as well when they lost Dylan Holloway to injury in the first period of the matchup. Holloway had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher after being struck in the neck by a puck. Blues players quickly signaled for help after the incident, prompting a stoppage in play. Fortunately, the team reported that Holloway was alert and stable, being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. The referees opted to send both teams to the locker room for the first intermission shortly after he was removed from the ice.

A notable statistic from the game highlights St. Louis’ ability to rally this season; they now hold a record of 5-4-0 when the opposing team scores first. This marks a significant improvement from last season when they struggled with a record of 10-29-4 under similar circumstances.

Looking ahead, the Lightning are set to host the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night, while the Blues will welcome the Utah Grizzlies for their next game on the same evening.
