On Tuesday, Republican Representative Carlos Gimenez successfully secured a seat in the U.S. House, representing Florida’s 28th District.
This district was established in the redistricting process of 2020, following Florida’s gain of a congressional seat due to the latest census results.
It is located in the southern region of the state, encompassing the scenic Florida Keys, the southwestern suburbs of Miami, and portions of the Everglades.
Previously, Gimenez, who has served as the mayor of Miami-Dade County, had triumphed over Democratic Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell during the last election cycle in 2020 for this same congressional seat.
In the current election, he faced off against Democrat Phil Ehr, a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
The election results were confirmed with Gimenez being declared the winner at 7:24 p.m. EST.
This victory further solidifies Gimenez’s influence in Florida politics as he continues his congressional journey.
