The Baltimore Orioles confirmed their decision to activate various player options as part of their roster management for the upcoming season. The team has opted to retain first baseman/outfielder Ryan O’Hearn and right-handed pitcher Seranthony Domínguez through $8 million options, along with a $2.2 million option for left-handed pitcher Cionel Pérez.
O’Hearn, who is 31 years old, had a strong season, posting a batting average of .264, with 15 home runs and 59 runs batted in over a career-high 142 games. He earned a salary of $3.5 million during this period.
Domínguez, 29, joined the Orioles from Philadelphia on July 26 and made a significant impact during his time with Baltimore, recording a 3.97 earned run average (ERA) across 26 relief appearances. He concluded the season with a cumulative ERA of 4.45 in 63 games, while making $4.25 million in his second year of a two-year contract that was worth $7.25 million total. Had the team opted not to exercise his option, they would have faced a $500,000 buyout.
28-year-old Pérez finished the season with a record of 2-0 and a 4.53 ERA, appearing in 62 games as a reliever and earning $1.2 million. His progress was initially hindered by a right oblique strain, which kept him sidelined for nearly a month earlier this season.
On the other hand, Danny Coulombe, a 35-year-old left-handed pitcher, saw his $4 million option declined, prompting him to enter free agency. He recorded a 1-0 record with a solid 2.12 ERA over 33 relief appearances this year, but had a layoff from June 8 until September 20 due to a left elbow injury that required the removal of bone chips.
Additionally, the Orioles activated several players from the 60-day injured list, including right-handed pitchers Félix Bautista, Kyle Bradish, and Tyler Wells, as well as infielder/outfielder Jorge Mateo. All of these players are currently recovering from reconstructive elbow surgery, marking an important step forward for the team’s health and roster depth heading into the new season.
