Cardinals obliged to shut roof during Bears game due to hail in second quarter

GLENDALE, Ariz. — For their matchup against the Chicago Bears, the Arizona Cardinals decided to raise the roof at State Farm Stadium. However, a surprise weather event soon followed.

Rain began to fall just after the start of the second quarter, intensifying into a downpour that ultimately resulted in hail, prompting the Cardinals to quickly close the roof. The process to secure the roof usually takes around 12 minutes, and by the time it was fully closed, the rain had largely subsided.

Despite the sudden weather change, the rain did not disrupt the game itself, although some spectators positioned near the roof opening made their way up the stairs in search of shelter from the rain.

Typically, the Cardinals prefer to keep the roof closed at the beginning of the season due to the heat that often envelops the Arizona desert, reserving the option to open it later in the year as temperatures begin to drop.
