BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Jalen Kitna delivered a remarkable performance for UAB, tying the program record by throwing six touchdown passes as the Blazers triumphed over Tulsa with a commanding score of 59-21 on Saturday, effectively putting an end to their six-game losing streak.

Since taking over as the starting quarterback for UAB on October 5th, Kitna had initially struggled, posting four touchdowns but also six interceptions. However, he seemed to have turned a corner, as the majority of his interceptions came during his first start, and his performance improved significantly in subsequent games.

In the match against Tulsa, Kitna was impressive, remaining interception-free, as he threw three touchdown passes to Kameran Shanks, two to Amare Thomas, and one to Bryce Damous. He completed 25 of 32 throws for an impressive total of 404 yards, leading the Blazers to a remarkable 45-7 advantage by halftime, which featured four of his touchdown passes and a 58-yard punt return touchdown by Shanks.

Shanks was also a standout player, accumulating 153 receiving yards on just five receptions throughout the game. Kitna’s six touchdown passes tied him with former UAB quarterback John Whitcomb, who achieved the same feat twice in 1993 and 1994, both times against Prairie View A&M.

For Tulsa, Cooper Legas contributed with 230 passing yards and two touchdowns, yet his efforts were overshadowed by UAB’s overwhelming victory.
