Amber Glenn of the USA secures top position at the Grand Prix de France

ANGERS, France — Amber Glenn is poised for her first Grand Prix triumph in figure skating, having established a significant lead during the short program at the French segment of the series on Friday.

Glenn, representing the United States, was the standout performer among the female competitors, landing a triple axel and scoring 78.14 points. This placed her over seven points ahead of South Korea’s Kim Chaeyeon, who scored 70.90 points.

Japan’s Wakaba Higuchi, the previous champion at Skate America last month, is currently in third position with 66.98 points. Meanwhile, former European champion Anastasiia Gubanova from Georgia faced setbacks and is in ninth place after a fall during her routine.

In the men’s short program, Jin Boyang is leading the pack as he aims for his first Grand Prix victory since clinching the title at the Cup of China in 2020. Jin executed a successful quadruple toeloop and achieved a score of 88.12. Following him are Estonia’s Aleksandr Selevko with 85.73 points, and Japan’s Kazuki Tomono, who scored 83.45 points.

The competition saw several falls from top competitors, most notably Adam Siao Him Fa, a two-time European champion and local favorite from France. Fa ended up in eighth place with a score of 74.90 after falling on his last two jumps.

In the pairs event, last season’s world championship bronze medalists, Minerva Fabienna Hase and Nikita Volodin from Germany, are in the lead with a score of 73.72. They are followed by Italy’s Sara Conti and Niccolo Macii, as well as Canada’s Lia Pereira and Trent Michaud.

In the ice dance category, two-time European champions, Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy, took the top position with 82.20 points. France’s Evgeniia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud are in second, while Lithuania’s Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevicius occupy third.

The free skates for all four disciplines will culminate on Saturday, determining the final standings for this Grand Prix event.
