NEW YORK — The American Literary Translators Association has honored the English-language translators of an Italian short story collection and a French poetry book with prestigious awards.

Jamie Richards received the National Translation Award for prose for her translation of Marosia Castaldi’s work, “The Hunger of Women,” originally published in Italian.
Meanwhile, Cole Swensen was recognized with the National Translation Award for poetry for her translation of “And the Street” by Pierre Alferi, which was written in French.

Each winner is granted a monetary prize of $4,000 as part of the recognition. Richards dedicates herself entirely to translation, while Swensen is not only a distinguished translator but also an acclaimed poet, known for works such as “Goest” and “Gravesend.”

In a statement released on Monday, Chenxin Jiang, president of the translation association, expressed pride in administering the National Translation Awards. Jiang noted that the awards highlight the talents of many skilled translators, writers, and publishers responsible for bringing these exceptional works into the English language.
