TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Daniel Richardson delivered an impressive performance with two touchdown throws as Florida A&M secured a 24-6 victory over Southern on Saturday night.
This outcome marks the first loss in the Southwestern Athletic Conference for Southern, whose record now stands at 4-4, and they are 3-1 in the conference.
Richardson exhibited precision with 25 completed passes out of 32 attempts, amassing a total of 274 passing yards, alongside one interception. Early in the third quarter, he connected with Jamari Gassett for a spectacular 53-yard touchdown, and later in the fourth quarter, a 16-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Dean further increased the Rattlers’ advantage to 21-3.
In addition to Richardson’s prowess, Gassett had a standout game, catching five passes for 118 yards and also adding to the score with a remarkable 43-yard punt return for Florida A&M, bringing their record to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Southern responded with Joshua Griffin kicking a 50-yard field goal in the first quarter to get on the board, and he also made a longer 46-yarder late in the third quarter. Southern currently shares its standing in the Western Division with Alcorn State.
