Leonardo DiCaprio has thrown his support behind Kamala Harris in her presidential campaign, showcasing his endorsement in a video shared on Friday. The renowned Oscar-winning actor, who has long advocated for climate change initiatives, has a history of backing Democratic candidates.
Previously, in early 2020, DiCaprio participated in a fundraising event for Joe Biden at the residence of Sherry Lansing, a former head of Paramount Pictures. In the recent Instagram video, he commended Harris for her ambitious goal of achieving net zero emissions by the year 2050 and her commitment to fostering a green economy. He highlighted her critical role in the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, noting that during her tenure as vice president, she cast the tie-breaking vote for this significant climate legislation that received support solely from Democrats.
As the election draws closer, with fewer than two weeks remaining until Election Day, Harris has garnered endorsements from numerous notable figures in the entertainment industry, including Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Chris Rock, and George Clooney. Recently, the vice president held a rally in the Atlanta suburbs, joined by former President Barack Obama and musician Bruce Springsteen. Additionally, Beyoncé is expected to appear at Harris’ rally in Houston, with her song ‘Freedom’ serving as a campaign anthem for the vice president.
On the other hand, Republican nominee Donald Trump has attracted a range of celebrity supporters, including Elon Musk, Dennis Quaid, Roseanne Barr, and Kid Rock. In December 2016, DiCaprio met with Trump, who was then president-elect, alongside his foundation’s team to discuss how jobs focused on environmental preservation could contribute positively to the economy.
