PARIS — The Paris prosecutor’s office announced on Friday that two individuals are set to stand trial for premeditated murder concerning the shooting incident that resulted in the death of former Argentine rugby player Federico Martín Aramburú two years ago.
Loïk Le Priol and Romain Bouvier face murder charges, while a third individual, Lyson Rochemir, is charged with complicity in the murder, as stated by the prosecutor’s office.
Aramburú was fatally shot multiple times in the back on March 19, 2022, outside a bar situated in Paris’ Left Bank, an area known for its vibrant nightlife. At 42 years of age, his life was cut short following a confrontation that involved him and his friend, Shaun Hegarty.
According to reports, Rochemir is alleged to have driven Bouvier in a vehicle that trailed Aramburú. Following the shooting, at Le Priol’s request, Rochemir purportedly relocated the vehicle to obscure evidence.
In addition to these allegations, Rochemir is also accused of destroying evidence by disposing of the SIM card from Le Priol’s mobile phone.
A third suspect, Antony Sorrentino, has been charged with obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence. His accusations include providing Bouvier with shelter and financial support, as well as the disposal of the weapon used in the shooting and Bouvier’s clothing.
Le Priol was apprehended in Budapest a few days after the incident, while Bouvier was taken into custody in France. Both suspects are reportedly connected to France’s far-right movement.
Federico Martín Aramburú had a notable rugby career, having represented Argentina in 22 matches as a center or winger, and notably scored a try during the 2007 Rugby World Cup against Georgia. He also played for several French clubs, including Biarritz, Perpignan, and Dax, between 2004 and 2010.
