VIENNA — Alex de Minaur has secured his place in the quarterfinals at the Erste Bank Open after Flavio Cobolli had to retire due to a shoulder injury. At the time of the retirement, de Minaur was leading the match 7-6 (2), 3-1 on Thursday.
As the second seed in the tournament, de Minaur is currently vying for the eighth and final spot in the upcoming ATP Finals in Turin against Andrey Rublev. In his next match, he will go up against 19-year-old Jakub Mensik, who is eager to make his mark in the semifinals.
Karen Khachanov extended his winning streak to six matches by overcoming Brandon Nakashima in a hard-fought battle, with the final score being 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. He will compete against Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinal round.
Jack Draper also made his way to the quarterfinals, defeating Luciano Darderi in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-1. Draper’s next opponent will be Tomas Machac, who triumphed over third seed Grigor Dimitrov with a score of 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3.
