ISLAMABAD — On Wednesday, a court in Pakistan granted bail to Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in connection with a corruption case, marking nearly nine months since her initial arrest, according to her legal representative.

Bushra Bibi was apprehended following a January 31 court ruling that led to her and Khan being sentenced to 14 years in prison for their involvement in a corruption matter. Bibi, who is Khan’s third spouse and is known for her role as a spiritual healer, has consistently refuted the charges against her. For the duration of her detention, she has been held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, the same facility where her husband is currently incarcerated.

Lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha confirmed that the court has granted her bail and mandated her immediate release from custody. This development comes amid a backdrop of various legal troubles for Khan since his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in 2022. Since then, he has faced over 150 legal challenges, encompassing allegations of inciting violence, beginning with his arrest in May 2023, and he was later sentenced to prison in August of the same year over graft charges.
