TROY, Ala. — Troy University’s quarterback Goose Crowder will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, according to the guidance of the team’s medical personnel.
The announcement was made on social media by the school on Tuesday, although details regarding the specific nature of Crowder’s injury were not disclosed. He had previously been forced to leave games against Memphis on September 7 and Louisiana-Monroe on September 28 due to what has been labeled an upper-body injury.
In his time on the field this season, Crowder, who is a junior, has recorded impressive stats, amassing 535 passing yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions in four games played for the Trojans.
Head coach Gerad Parker expressed his respect for Crowder in a statement, saying, “Goose is one of the toughest football players that I’ve had the privilege of coaching. This is never the outcome that you want, but at the end of the day, what is best for the long-term health of our student-athletes will always outweigh any other alternative. Goose has handled this with the class and maturity that you would expect from a man of his character.”
With Crowder out, Tucker Kilcrease and Matthew Caldwell have shared quarterback duties over the past couple of games. Caldwell’s performance includes 430 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions, while Kilcrease has also shown his skills, throwing for 377 yards along with three touchdowns and just one interception.
This season has been a challenge for the two-time reigning Sun Belt Conference champions, as they find themselves at 1-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play during Parker’s inaugural year as head coach. The Trojans are set to face Arkansas State this coming Saturday, seeking to improve their standing.
