WASHINGTON — On Tuesday, the FBI announced that it is looking into the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive documents relating to Israel’s preparations for a possible retaliation against Iran.

John Kirby, a national security spokesperson for the White House, mentioned on Monday that the Biden administration is still determining whether the classified information was the result of a leak or a hacking incident. However, he noted there is currently no evidence suggesting that “additional documents like this finding their way into the public domain.”

U.S. officials had already begun probing the release, as reported on Saturday, and the FBI confirmed this investigation for the first time on Tuesday. They stated that they are collaborating closely with partners from the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community, although no further details were provided.

The leaked files are linked to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency. They reveal that Israel is actively positioning military resources in preparation for a strike in response to a severe ballistic missile assault from Iran on October 1. These documents were classified as shareable within the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance, which includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.

Initially flagged as top secret, these documents surfaced online on Friday via the Telegram messaging platform and quickly circulated among channels frequented by Iranian users.
