MADRID — Real Valladolid achieved only its second victory of the Spanish league season on Friday, defeating Alaves 3-2 with two goals scored in the final 20 minutes of the match.
The match saw Valladolid benefit from two penalties, one awarded in each half. This win elevated them to 18th place in La Liga, gathering eight points from their first 10 matches. Alaves sits four positions higher with 10 points from the same number of games.
The home team entered the match energized, marking their first game after the international break, and took an early lead just five minutes into the contest.
After a lapse in defense from Mario Martin, who lost possession in his own half, Toni Martínez seized the opportunity. The former Porto forward charged up the pitch and fired a low shot from 30 yards, which deflected and nestled into the bottom corner of Valladolid’s goal.
Valladolid soon leveled the score in the 16th minute when Mamadou Sylla successfully converted a penalty against his former team.
The second half saw Valladolid become more threatening, and they clinched all three points with goals scored in the 72nd and 76th minutes.
The first goal came from a penalty taken by Selim Amallah, while the second resulted from a quick counterattack instigated by Sylla and Anuar. Sylla passed to Anuar, who struck a right-footed shot into the net from the left.
Alaves did reduce the deficit in the sixth minute of stoppage time with a goal from substitute Kike García. However, he was shown a red card for dissent moments later following his goal.
