BRIDGETON, N.J. — A long-serving detective from a county prosecutor’s office in New Jersey was tragically killed during what appears to be a home invasion, according to authorities who spoke on Wednesday.

Sgt. Monica Mosley, aged 51, was discovered by Bridgeton police around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night. Officers had arrived at the scene following reports of several individuals attempting to forcibly enter a residence. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival, as outlined in a statement from the police department.

Investigators later traced a lead to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where they detained a person for questioning. While the individual’s identity remains undisclosed, it has been revealed that this person was being treated for a gunshot wound. However, it is still uncertain if this injury resulted from the home invasion incident.

Further information has not been released as the investigation continues. As of Wednesday, there had been no arrests made and no charges filed in connection with the case.

Mosley commenced her professional journey as a paralegal in the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office in 2006. She transitioned to the role of county detective three years later and contributed to various specialized units within the prosecutor’s office, which included the special victims unit and internal affairs, where she took on the role of unit supervisor.

The investigation into the shooting is being collaboratively conducted by the State Police’s Major Crime Bureau, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, and local Bridgeton police officers.
