Town issues penalty to local resident for displaying Trump sign on water tower

A municipality in Massachusetts has taken legal action against a property owner for projecting a political message supporting “Trump 2024” onto a municipal water tower.

Officials from the town of Hanson clarified that they do not support political candidates and prohibit the display of political signage on town-owned property.

Hanson’s Town Administrator, Lisa Green, reported that the local authorities became aware of the resident projecting the image onto the water tower on October 11. The identity of the person responsible has not been disclosed.

“This creates the false impression that this action has the town’s approval or endorsement,” Green stated in a public comment made on Saturday.

In response, the town has implemented a daily fine of $100 until the projection ceases. According to officials, these fines have been accumulating since they were imposed.

Additionally, employees from the Highway Department have set up a spotlight on the tower to diminish the visibility of the projection at night. Town officials are concerned that the individual’s actions may lead to substantial expenses for taxpayers, including legal costs, overtime wages for staff to manage the spotlight, and possibly the expense of renting or acquiring more powerful lighting equipment.

Officials have noted that the daily fine might fall short of covering these potential costs.
