OTTAWA, Ontario — In an action-packed game on Monday, Josh Norris put the finishing touch on his impressive two-goal performance by netting the game-winner just 56 seconds into overtime, leading the Ottawa Senators to a thrilling 8-7 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.

Both Zack MacEwen and Norris contributed significantly for the Senators with a pair of goals each, while teammates Jake Sanderson, Drake Batherson, Thomas Chabot, and Claude Giroux also found the back of the net. Anton Forsberg struggled in net, allowing three goals on just nine shots before being replaced by Mads Sogaard, who was called up for emergency duty and faced 17 shots, letting in four goals.

On the other side, Kevin Fiala and Alex Laferriere each netted two goals for the Kings, while Trevor Lewis, Adrian Kempe, and Tanner Jeannot added to the scoreboard as well. Darcy Kuemper, the Kings’ goaltender, made a commendable 33 saves to keep his team competitive despite the loss.

The game was tied at 6-6 in the third period until Norris broke the deadlock, propelling the Senators into the lead for the first time during the contest. However, Jeannot responded, leveling the score again with just over five minutes left in regulation.

Historically, the Kings have maintained a dominant record against the Senators, as they had not suffered a regulation loss to Ottawa since January 10, 2019. This matchup was particularly notable for Senators fans, as it marked the eighth time in team history that both the Senators scored and allowed six goals in the same contest, and it was the third occurrence involving the Kings.

Another highlight of the night was Brandt Clarke’s impressive debut in his hometown of Nepean, Ontario. The young player recorded three assists, showcasing his potential and contributing significantly to the Kings’ offensive efforts.

A pivotal moment in the game came midway through the second period when MacEwen scored to cut the Senators’ deficit from 3-1 to 3-2, igniting a comeback that changed the momentum of the match.

Despite entering the game with a flawless penalty kill record, having successfully defended against all ten chances their opponents had faced, the Kings struggled on this front, conceding three power-play goals.
