LOS ANGELES — In a notable development for the New York Mets, Brandon Nimmo was included in the team’s roster for Game 2 of the National League Championship Series on Monday, despite facing discomfort from plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
During Game 1, which ended in a 9-0 defeat against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Nimmo displayed signs of struggle as he limped around the field and finished the game with no hits in three at-bats.
“He’s working through the foot issue, clearly, but he is fit enough not only to be in the lineup but also to take part in the outfield,” expressed rookie Mets manager Carlos Mendoza.
Nimmo shared with reporters after the first game that the discomfort has been a persistent issue since May and was aggravated during the NL Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3.
According to Nimmo, the most significant pain occurs while he is running. Plantar fasciitis is characterized by inflammation of a thick band of tissue that stretches from the heel to the toes, leading to considerable discomfort.
