MISSOULA, Mont. — Logan Fife contributed significantly to Montana’s 31-20 victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday, scoring three short rushing touchdowns and throwing for another.
Montana (5-2, 2-1 in the Big Sky Conference) entered halftime trailing 13-3, with the lone touchdown in the first half coming from Brandon Wong, who returned a fumble 45 yards following a sack of Fife by Alex McLaughlin. However, the Grizzlies turned the game around in the second half, scoring on four out of their five possessions before sealing the game with a formation victory.
Fife opened the second half with a 1-yard touchdown run that capped an impressive 11-play, 75-yard drive, but Northern Arizona quickly responded with an explosive play as PJ London connected with Kolbe Katsis for an 88-yard touchdown pass.
Montana rallied again, engineering another 75-yard drive that concluded with a touchdown run by Fife, narrowing the gap to 20-17.
With 6:13 left in the game, Fife completed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Junior Bergen, giving the Grizzlies the lead. The Lumberjacks then attempted to regain control with a risky call on fourth down from their own 33-yard line with under five minutes left, but it resulted in an incomplete pass. Six plays later, Fife added another short touchdown, this time from just 2 yards out, solidifying Montana’s comeback victory.
Fife completed 16 of 27 passes for 199 yards, playing a pivotal role in the Grizzlies’ win. In contrast, London finished with 8 completions on 18 attempts for 131 yards, as Northern Arizona’s efforts fell short on this occasion.
