Travis Head scores career-high 154 not out to lead Australia to victory over England in 1st ODI

Travis Head shined in Australia’s remarkable chase of 316 to secure a 13th consecutive victory in one-day internationals against England. His stellar performance of 154 not out, including 20 fours and five sixes, propelled Australia to a seven-wicket win with six overs to spare. Ben Duckett’s 95 helped England post 315 all out at Trent Bridge, known for its accommodating batting conditions.

England seemed on course for a significant total at 211-2 after 32 overs, but Australia’s spinners, led by Marnus Labuschagne’s 3-39, curbed the run rate and seized key wickets, triggering a collapse that saw England lose their final seven wickets for 83 runs. Head, who also contributed with two wickets, dominated the chase, surpassing his previous best of 152 against England last November.

Head’s century celebration, balancing his helmet on the bat handle raised to the sky, marked a memorable moment. Another standout was Labuschagne, who remained unbeaten on 77 off 61 balls, reminiscent of his presence in Australia’s successful World Cup chase against India.

Will Jacks’ 62 and Adam Zampa’s 3-49 were notable contributions for England. Zampa, in his 100th ODI, added to the milestones achieved during the match. The series now moves to Headingley for the second ODI between the long-standing cricket rivals on Saturday.
