In a game on Tuesday night, the Baltimore Orioles secured a 5-3 victory against the Boston Red Sox. Cedric Mullins starred with two home runs and three RBIs, while Albert Suárez pitched six innings, allowing only one run and striking out a career-best eight batters. Adley Rutschman contributed with a two-run single for the Orioles, who are striving to catch up to the AL East-leading New York Yankees, winning for the second time in six games.
On the Boston side, Triston Casas and Masataka Yoshida each delivered an RBI double. However, the Red Sox have struggled, losing seven of their last 11 games in the fight for the AL’s third wild-card spot against Minnesota.
Tyler O’Neill from Boston went hitless in three at-bats with three strikeouts after hitting two home runs in the previous game. Mullins’ first home run hooked around the Pesky Pole in the first inning, with an estimated drive of 334 feet.
Suárez rebounded from a poor start last week by allowing only four hits and two walks in six innings. Seranthony Domínguez secured the final three outs to earn his 10th save. Casas managed a double off the Green Monster in the fourth to reduce the Orioles’ lead to 3-1. However, Boston was unable to overcome the Orioles’ lead, ultimately falling 5-3.
The Red Sox’s Kutter Crawford lost his fifth consecutive start, conceding three runs and seven hits over 6 1/3 innings. In Crawford’s last five starts, the Red Sox have scored only two runs while he was on the mound. In the future, RHP Dean Kremer is set to start for the Orioles in the series finale against Red Sox RHP Nick Pivetta.
In injury news, Orioles’ INF Jordan Westburg, recovering from a fractured right hand, is making progress and anticipates starting batting practice soon. The Red Sox’s Casas returned to the lineup after manager Alex Cora had him sit out against a left-handed starting pitcher.
