Connor Watkins threw two touchdown passes to Devin Smith and scored another himself as Villanova defeated Colgate with a final score of 28-3 in Hamilton, New York on Saturday night. The Wildcats, holding the fifth rank in the FCS coaches’ poll, were ahead 7-3 at halftime after Watkins and Smith connected for a 71-yard touchdown late in the first quarter. In the second half, Isaiah Ragland added a 1-yard touchdown to extend Villanova’s lead.
In the fourth quarter, Villanova secured their victory with Watkins and Smith teaming up for another touchdown from 8 yards out, and Watkins running for a 13-yard touchdown. Watkins completed 18 of 28 passes for 247 yards, while Smith caught six passes for 116 yards. On the Colgate side, Michael Brescia went 16 of 32 for 140 yards and also led the team in rushing with 57 yards.
